Description:
The Economy Ministry and the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) have launched an interesting tourist campaign, promising British guests in Slovenia between 25% to 100% refund depending on the result of the Slovenian national football team at the World Cup, which kicks off in South Africa in June.
Under the slogan "Slovenia...bet you'll love it", British tourists will be offered a 25% refund if Slovenia make it to the round of 16, a 50% refund if the team makes it to the semi-finals and the full refund if Slovenia win it all, Economy Minister Matej Lahovnik told the press in Ljubljana on Friday.
Refunds will be offered for packages paid until 10 June 2010, Lahovnik said, adding that Slovenia's appearance at the biggest football tournament was an opportunity that must not be missed.
The STO, in cooperation with the Slovenian Embassy in London, is also mulling renting a pub in London for six months to serve as the central info point for Slovenia ahead and during the World Cup.
In addition to the UK, promotional activities will be launched in Germany, whose citizens account for 6% of the total overnight stays in Slovenia, in a bid to reverse the negative trend in the number of tourists in the last year.
"Slovenia will play at least three matches at the World Cup, which means 270 minutes of the attention of the global audience," Lahovnik said, adding that there were few opportunities in which Slovenia could be given such prime time.
The Slovenian economy and tourism will also be promoted in Slovakia. About 250,000 Slovaks visited Slovenia in 2009, generating about 800,000 overnight stays, the minister added.
