Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Janez Jansa and his fiancee Urska Bacovnik exchanged wedding vows at a church ceremony near the Alpine town of Kobarid on Saturday.The bride was dressed in white wedding gown with a long train, and the groom was wearing a black suit. The guests threw rice and flowers on the couple and welcomed them with bread and salt after the ceremony.
Asked by the press about the first feelings following the ceremony, the head of the biggest opposition party, the Democrats (SDS), said that "this is something you have to experience yourself."
The ceremony was among other attended by several SDS deputies, former ministers Lovro Sturm, Vasko Simoniti, Andrej Vizjak, Zofija Mazej Kukovic, Dragutin Mate, Dimitrij Rupel, Milan Zver and MEP Mihael Brejc.
The 51-year-old former prime minister and 29-year-old Bacovnik, who is a doctor, first appeared together in public at a ceremony marking Reformation Day on 30 October 2006.
Bacovnik subsequently accompanied Jansa on several official events, mostly during Slovenia's EU presidency in the first half of 2008.
