Yesterday, Slavko Avsenik, Slovenian legend of folk music and founder of the world-famous Avsenik Ensemble celebrated his 80th birthday.

Slavko Avsenik is also the author of the song "Na Golici", which is considered to be one of the most recognizable polka song in the world. Song was written in the fifties of the 20th century (first aired in 1953, first recorded in 1955). It immediately became famous in Slovenia and other traditional alpine-polk countries (Switzerland, Austria, Germany).

In 2003, the German television station ARD put Na Golici on the list of 20 most performed songs in the world.
