Parliament as Safe Point for Children

18 November 2009

Description:

On the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights, the Slovenian National Assembly became a UNICEF safe point for children and adolescents. This decision of Parliament is an important symbolic message.

This is the first time, that Parliament became safe point anywhere in the world. The space is reserved for children and adolescents between 5 and 18 years old in case of any distress on the streets. Safe points are located in different rooms, where a trained personel is prepared to help children in need and provide them with basic information or assistance. Children will identify a safe point by a special label in front of the building.
