Description:
A Slovenian world known climber, Tomaz Humar, who went missing in the Himalayas at the beginning of this week was found dead.Tomaz Humar, 41, fell on Tuesday during a solo ascent on the north face of Langtang Lirung, a 7,227-metre peak in Nepal. In a single radio call on that day, he said his leg, ribs and spine were broken. After that call, he didn't answer anymore. Assumption is he probably died that day.
"Humar's body was found at 5,600 metres with broken leg, additional injuries will be revealed. His body was transported this morning to the base camp, decision on next steps is in the hands of his family.
Bad weather foiled several attempts to locate him. The body was found by a Swiss mountain rescue team.
Tomaz Humar is best known for his famous solo ascent of the south wall of Dhaulagiri (considered one of the most dangerous routes in the Himalayas) in 1999.
The first rescue of him was during a solo attempt to climb Nanga Parbat in 2005. Humar became trapped by avalanches at an altitude of nearly 6000 metres. After six days he was rescued by the Pakistani army helicopter crew.
He completed over 1500 ascents, and won a number of mountaineering and other awards, including the Piolet d'Or in 1996.
In our hearts, he is one of a kind and definitely one of the biggest Slovenian treasures, who found his highest mountain too soon. We wish all condolences to his family and friends.
