In Slovenia, Valentine's day had a slightly different meaning. As the first spring saint is supposed to open the season work in the fields, vineyards and orchards: 'St. Valentine is the key to the roots". In Slovenia Saint Valentine's was related to forthcoming of the spring. On this day according to the legend supposedly started to marry birds.
Interesting custom is on north east Slovenia, where housewives set the little Valentine's cakes on trees and shrubs for children.
The modern type of the holiday started in our country at the end of the 1980s mainly due to media and marketing.
In addition to greeting cards nowadays are mainly donated flowers - red roses, which represent love, candy- especially chocolate and as jewellery: necklaces, bracelets, rings,
followed after a romantic dinner of course.
