American weekly news magazine Newsweek has published a list of 100 best countries to live in, putting Slovenia in 24th place right after Italy and before the Czech Republic.
The magazine ranked the countries based on their performances in five categories: health, economic dynamism (the openness of a country's economy and the breadth of its corporate sector), education, political environment, and quality of life.
Slovenia fared the best in the category political environment, where it ranked 17th behind France and ahead of Poland, and did the worst in economic dynamism, finishing 30th behind Austria and followed by Azerbaijan.
In health, Slovenia beat the US and ranked 23rd, behind Austria. Quality of life put Slovenia in 26th place, between Israel and Portugal. Quality of education earned the country 27th place, behind the US and ahead of Lithuania.
The best country to live in according to Newsweek is Finland, second place went to Switzerland and third to Sweden. At the bottom of the list is Burkina Faso.
Among Slovenia's neighbouring countries Austria achieved the best result with 18th, Italy ranked 23rd, Croatia was 28th and Hungary 33rd.
