Ljubljana's new stadium and indoor arena have officially opened yesterday with a high-profile friendly basketball match between Slovenia and Spain, while the 16,000 stadium is scheduled to open the today with a football match between Slovenia and Australia. Ljubljana and Slovenia has finally a state of the art staduim to hold top sports, concerts and other events.
Ljubljana was one of the sports capitals of Europe on Tuesday. The Slovenian capital officially opened the new and modern Stozice Arena, which definitely belongs among the greatest arenas in Europe, with a capitacy for 12,550 fans.
The opening game was played between the Slovenian National Team and the Spanish National Team, current World and European Champion, on Tuesday. The hosts could not inaugurate their new arena with a win as Slovenia lost after overtime, 72-79, but the result of this friendly opening game was not really important.
The most important thing was the official opening of new Stozice Arena which was also fully packed for the first time!
The celebration of sports in Ljubljana will continue tomorrow, with a football game between Slovenia and Australia, on the new football stadium which holds 16,000 spectators, and was built in same sports complex as the magnificent new arena.
