The Ocean Racing Club and TornadoSport are pleased to announce the first ever Extreme 40 World Championships, which will take place in Portorož, Slovenia from 12th to 18th July 2010.

The Extreme Sailing Series Europe is known for showcasing the skills of the very best sailing in the world. The Ocean Racing Club and Kempinski Palace Portorož, esteems Portorož as the jewel of the Adriatic Sea making this stunning bay the newest hotspot for 2010 yacht racing.

Michael Reardon, The Ocean Racing Club director, said: “We are excited to welcome the competitors of the Extreme40 class to the Kempinski Palace Portorož in July. This is a coastal Grand Prix boasting outstanding class and dramatic boat structure. It places Portorož, Slovenia directly in the centre of the global sailing stage.”

The format of the event held by The Ocean Club will be an Olympic style series of windward - leeward courses along the coastal line testing each entrant’s limits. As highlighted by Mitch Booth, Extreme40 Skipper who commented: “This will be the first time that we will race a full series on a longer course format with the Extreme 40. This will be a true battle for the title.”
