Description:
Thousands of Slovenian students are protesting a new bill that would limit their work and income during their studies.
The protest began on Preseren Square in Ljubljana, Slovenian capitol city, where about 10,000 students gathered to protest against the planned government reforms that would limit their work and income during their studies. The government's proposition with it's bill on "mini jobs" would limit a student's work to 720 hours (14 hours per week) and max €6,000 (from € 3,5 - €8 per hour) a year. This kind of work will be the same for both the students and pupils, as well as the unemployed and pensioners.
What seemed to be peaceful protests became violent when students moved in front of Slovenian parliament. Some of them started throwing eggs, stones, granite blocks and bottles in parliament causing around €30.000 worth of damage. Around 500 police officers were controlling the situation and had to intervene.
Student organization of Slovenia, organizer of protests, does not take responsibility for damage, but will help find the ones who are. Slovenian government is speaking strongly about yesterday incidents.
