International Museum Day, Slovenia

18 May 2010

Description:

International Day of Museums is celebrated today in Slovenia also. Over 40 museums in the country opened it's doors to the public for free today. Some museums even include expert guiding and free brochures. The goal of this manifestation is to bring museum life closer to the general public and to remind ourselves of the beautiful heritage and history all around us.

International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977, on May 18th. Each year, the Advisory Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) defines a specific theme for International Museum Day. This year it is in the spirit of: "Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, co-operation and peace among peoples".
