Description:
The 4th annual International Mountain Film Festival will kick off on Monday and will feature 46 competing documentary films, lectures and exhibitions in Ljubljana and Domzale until 14 May.
The festival is organised by the Association for Mountain Culture, which joined the International Alliance for Mountain Film this year.
The documentary films, describing mountains and mountaineering from different perspectives and taking the viewers to different parts of the world from Mongolia to North America, will compete in four categories - mountain nature and culture; mountains, sport and adventure; climbing and mountaineering.
The rich accompanying programme will feature lectures by top world climbers, a retrospective of films by Ivan Bole, a film about photographer, composer and mountaineer Marijan Lipovsek (1910-1995) and an exhibition of photos of the Alps from a bird's eye view by Matevz Lenarcic.
Before the festival was established in 2007, mountain films were an important part of the Sport and Tourist Film Festival that started in Kranj in 1966, but died out after being moved to Nova Gorica. Mountain films were again presented in Bled in 2002 to mark the International Year of Mountains.
