Description:
The project “Let's clean Slovenia in a day!” is an unprofitable and a non-political activity that will take place on 17 April. It is the biggest voluntary clean-up campaign ever in Slovenia which goal is to remove most of the illegal dumps and clear popular hiking paths all in one day.
The organisers hope that up to 20,000 tonnes of rubbish will be cleared. The volunteers will focus on clearing illegal dumps, while school pupils and pensioner organisations will be in charge of clearing the hiking paths.
The Clean Up Slovenia campaign is modeled after a similar project in Estonia, when 50,000 volunteers managed to clear 20,000 tonnes of rubbish in 2008.
The organisers want to set up a register of illegal dumping grounds in Slovenia and raise awareness about the dangers of illegal dumping and the importance of recycling. Slovenians recycle only around 10% of their waste.
