Dejan Zavec, Slovenia's best professional boxer, defended his IBF welterweight title with a last-round technical knockout.

Zavec, who won the IBF World Champion title in South Africa in December last year after defeating Isaac Hlatshwayo did it again on friday night at the Tivoli Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where fought his first defending title match against Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez of Argentina.

 

The 34-year-old Zaveck rose to 29-1, with his 17th knockout against Martinez, of Argentina, who slipped to 36-4-1, with 13 knockouts, and whose three-bout winning streak ended.

 

Zavec will have to defend his title again in June or July this year. One of the challengers is Rafal Jackiewicz, against whom Zavec was defeated in 2008 for the European Champion title. This is the only time that Zavec lost a match in his professional career.
