An extensive criminal investigation, which started on Tuesday because of suspicion of criminal acts of economic crime, corruption and extortion carried out in several Slovenian towns, continues to this day.
Criminal investigators performed five house searches. They where collecting data and documents because of suspicions of taking bribes, extortion, illicit production and traffic of arms and explosives.
Police would not officially confirm any names, but a police official said several people were taken into custody, one of them caught red-handed extorting EUR 320,000.
The media identified them as Agriculture Minister Milan Pogacnik, two opposition deputies, a mayor and a former manager of the Slovenian port of Koper, saying they are suspected of irregularities in trade involving land owned by the port.
