Ajdovščina lies at the heart of the Vipava Valley. Through the centuries it has grown on the foundations of an ancient settlement to Roman Castra and on to become a modern city pleasant for its citizens and attractive for visitors.
Among all the Slovene places descended from Roman cities, only Ajdovščina has preserved the almost completely unbroken wall with fourteen towers of Roman Castra. The city is also enriched by the cultural heritage of the painter and graphic artist Veno Pilon and the Baroque painter, locally born Anton Cebej.
After World War II Ajdovščina became the economical and cultural centre of the upper Vipava Valley.At the Ajdovščina Tourist Information Center, they will be happy to offer you all the information you need about the Vipava Valley, prepare a program for your excursion, and provide a local tour guide.
Major industries include textile fabrics, construction, food, beverage and furniture.
The town is located around 25 km from the Adriatic Sea.
