History
For centuries, the town of Sevnica was situated on the border of two historical regions of the Habsburg Empire: Carniola and Styria. In 1918, it was included in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later renamed to Yugoslavia). During World War Two, it was annexed to the Third Reich and the majority of its Slovene inhabitants were expelled and replaced by ethnic Germans resettled from the Gottschee county. After the War, the town was included in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia and started developing as an industrial center in the newly formed region known as Posavje.

Sevnica Castle
The architecture of this medieval castle bears silent witness to the many periods it went through from the Renaissance to the Baroque. Today, it houses the School and Firefighting Museum, the Museum of Exiles, and an exhibition of decorative arts. Proof of its harmonious interweaving of the past and present are the conference and wedding halls with their well-preserved frescoes.
